2016 Resolutions; Blogging & Reading

2016 is here - YAY!

I am greeting 2016 with open arms.  I can not wait for some of the amazing novels that are coming out this year ( check out my blog post on my anticipated 2016 releases here) and I can't wait to do some reading, blogging and to make new bookish friends in the coming year.

2015 was such a great year for me. Although I did not blog as much as I should have, I made new friends, met amazing authors, read great books and went to great events. To see how my 2015 went click here!

So I decided that this year I would set myself some resolutions / goals. I know that lots of people do this every year and don't stick to them but I thought I would set myself some realistic goals that would push me to work hard and have fun blogging in 2016.

1)  Set A Goodreads Reading Goal of 1

Okay so this may sound a little weird but let me explain.

Every year I set a Goodreads goal of how many books I hope to read that year, and although some years I fail and some I succeed, every year I feel under pressure to read a certain number of books. I don't think I should feel under any pressure to read books and shouldn't force myself through books just to reach a numbered goal.

I think that if I give up on this numbered challenge and set my goal to 1 book, every book after that will be a victory and I will not feel under any pressure. I know some of you reading this may not agree with me, and that is perfectly fine. I would love to hear any thoughts you have in the comments!

2)  Blog More Frequently - Once A Week At Least

Okay so although I did post some posts that I am really proud of in 2015, I think I sort of fell into a blogging slump. I felt I was posting the same type of thing, had no motivation to post and failed to balance college coursework with blogging so the blog was seldom updated.

In 2016 this will not happen. I am going to post at least once a week, and my posts will be ones I wanted to do, not ones I felt I needed to post.

3) Blog More Variously - Experiment!

In 2015 I fell into the aforementioned blogging slump. I felt no motivation to blog and I felt the blog had become a little monotonous. I knew I needed to become re-inspired and now I feel the motivation.
I am thinking of experimenting with formats and type of posts, I am going to steer away from posting solely book reviews and try posting other types of posts- lists, discussion posts, event chats, info graphics etc !

So if any of you fellow bloggers have any hints/ tips/ tricks into re-motivating my blogging please let me know in the comments!

4) Reduce My TBR (Owned Books)

Okay so this is definitely a resolution on many book bloggers lists for 2016 but it is one I need to stick to .

So this reduction of my TBR applies to my owned books. I currently own around 120 unread physical books, which is a number I am ashamed of, and I seriously feel the need to reduce this.

I have decided that I will not be able to purchase a novel or borrow a library book before reading 7 books I currently own on my shelf.

(* Note: this resolution does not reply in regards to review novels or ARCs*)

5) Review Each Book

Another thing I failed miserably at in 2015 was reviewing books after reading them. I have so many reviews to catch up on from 2015. I have decided to review each and every book I finish in 2016 unless I DNF'd it or feel that I disliked it so much that I have nothing to say in a review.

So that is all for my 2016 bookish & blogging resolutions. Please let me know your resolutions in the comments below. Hope you all have a wonderful new year !

  1. I've seen loads of people setting their GR goal as 1! I was tempted but I couldn't go through with it in the end. I need a high number to pressure me apparently XD

Good luck with all of your goals :D I'm also trying to reduce my TBR pile because it stresses me out, but I tried last year and failed miserably. We'll see how it goes!
