The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkiein

PLOT: THE GREATEST FANTASY EPIC OF OUR TIME

Bilbo Baggins was a hobbit who wanted to be left alone in quiet comfort. But the wizard Gandalf came along with a band of homeless dwarves. Soon Bilbo was drawn into their quest, facing evil orcs, savage wolves, giant spiders, and worse unknown dangers. Finally, it was Bilbo–alone and unaided–who had to confront the great dragon Smaug, the terror of an entire countryside . . .

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book and I cannot wait to see how they put it onto the big screen when the film is released soon.
The characters of this book are really enjoyable. I loved Bilbo Baggins.
He really developed as a character, from a person who would have run from adventure and have liked to sit in his hobbit-hole all day to a brave and courageous character by the end. He really does surprise the reader and himself with his newfound bravery. This character development for him was really enjoyable for me to read.
The dwarves were awesome, I don't think I could name them all, but I really enjoyed their relationship with Bilbo.
The plot had a steady pacing and the battle scene at the end was awesome. The plot was very high-fantasy. I loved the Journey aspect to it and reading of all their adventures along the way. There were parts that were slow but the last 60 pages or so were really enjoyable .
Tolkeins writing style was very interesting. He invented such wonderful characters and world. I also enjoyed the riddles and poems in the book. I was not expecting that but I did really enjoy the fun atmosphere they brought to the novel.
The scene with Gollum was my favourite part of the novel by far!

Favourite Quote: In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort."

Rating: Four Star Novel

  1. I heard The Hobbit was a really great book but I haven't read it yet myself. I may plan to read it before the movie though... even if it means after the movie comes out on DVD! :3
